LIFT will soon be launching a new website on a new domain: liftnet.org.uk.
The goal of the rebuild is straightforward: make the site easier to use, make information clearer, and improve how it presents and promotes LIFT members online.
A quick thank you
This rebuild was a voluntary project, and several members generously gave their time and expertise for free. In particular, thank you to Sue Leschen, Andrea Tuzzolo, and Tamás Méri for their help and support throughout – it made a real difference.
What members can do on the new site
The new website makes it easier to:
- Be found via a clearer, searchable member directory
- Share a direct link to your listing (useful for enquiries and referrals)
- Point people to LIFT’s specialist pages (Legal, Insurance, Financial) where you can showcase your services
- Keep up with LIFT activity via News and Events
The “Find a Linguist” directory (member listings)
This is the main practical improvement because it is a public directory.
What it is
A public directory of LIFT members (FITI + MITI). Anyone can search it.
How visitors can search
Visitors can filter the directory by:
- Type of Language Professional
- Specialist Fields
- From (source language)
- To (target language)
A quick note for members
Your listing is often someone’s first impression. If anything in your profile needs updating, please contact the Webmaster (@Tamás).
For clients and other visitors
If you’re using the directory to find a language professional:
- Use the filters to narrow your shortlist
- Then contact a few members with a brief description of your project (topic, languages, deadline, format)
- Ask any questions you need to confirm fit – for example experience in the subject area, availability, and preferred working process
Member spotlight: Member of the Month
Alongside the directory, the site includes a Member of the Month feature on the About Us page. This is separate from the directory listing and includes a more detailed member profile.
Participation is optional. If you’d like to be featured, you can request the form and complete it.
What’s next?
We’ll continue improving the website after launch based on feedback from members and visitors. It’s not set in stone so we can amend the content as and when we need to.
Please share any ideas and suggestions for new and/ or amended content with the LIFT committee and/ or Tamás.
You can also reach me directly at karo@karovscode.com.
And again, thank you to everyone who contributed time and ideas to help get this over the line.
